Uminathi Christian College Learner Upliftment program 13.10.17

Power and progress in partnerships – educating and uplifting our youth! In 2015, we partnered with Krupa Trust and KEY Group and KEY Foundation and built Uminathi Christian College in the heart of KwaNjobokazi – which officially opened in January 2016. Since then, we have visited the scholars sporadically, and hosted educationals at the school – particularly for the young girls that attend. Krupa Trust has continued to invest in the College – which currently educates 123 learners from Grade 8 to Grade 11 – training of teachers and staff as well as further build investment in a state of the art Dorm for about 70 of the learners to live in! And the progress continues after we connected them to Ithembalethu who are going to be running and Learnership program there in the near future! As we near the end of the year, final exams looming, we decided to again partner with Krupa, KEY and Ithembalethu and host a morning of motivation to inspire these young scholars on their last stretch of the year. And what a powerful morning it was! The program started with a warm welcome by Principal and Founder of Uminathi, Zanele Shange, followed by local artist Holly, who gave the most incredibly inspiring speech to the scholars – work hard, be disciplined and focus as well as a breath-taking LIVE acoustic performance. Then followed by local artists and motivational rappers ZKL and Mpsy from Ithembalethu who work through RAP to inspire and motivate the youth. Our Chairlady, Cindy Norcott, then gave a powerful motivational speech to the scholars and coupled with the young girls putting on a traditional Zulu dance, poetry recital – it was a cultural feast and judging by all the chatter and interaction with our speakers and volunteers when we were handing out their lunch bags and goodie bags FILLED with stationery and hygiene essentials, really succeeded in inspiring these young scholars to GIVE THEIR ALL. We are so grateful to our partners, volunteers and incredible guest speakers for helping to mark today as an inspirational start to the last term for these young scholars! Educate, Equip & Inspire!
