Women of Worth Educational event was held in the Salim Hall in Shongweni on the 9th of August. This was the most incredible morning, with amazing speakers and entertainers sharing their stories and inspiring the 200 women from the community. Highlighted by the Christian Social Services, all the women were also gifted with a Feminine Essentials pack filled with sanitary wear, some much-needed toiletries as well as brand new underwear that was generously donated by Snooze-U-Win!
Partnering with Pro-Appointments and Dis-Chem, we hosted a Women’s Day ME TIME celebration for 180 local business women on the 8th August. It was a wonderful morning of inspirational talks as well as a health, wellness and beauty expo by the Dis-Chem team raising nearly R50 000 for our Creche build at Siyanda in Ntshongweni.
Our Love the Babies visit to St Mary’s Hospital this month was generously sponsored by Buckman Laboratories. Joined by a team of their volunteers, we handed out nearly 100 ‘baby shower in a bag’ hampers to the very excited new moms at the hospital. It was such a joy and a privilege to be able to dress the newborns in their very first outfits and a blessing to these moms, who had a little more than a nappy for their newborns!
The Quintessential Group hosted their Annual Charity event on the 3rd of August and again this year selected RHF as their charity of choice. The evening was a great success as we raised over R40 000 for our Heart of Africa Gogo Visit to Hammarsdale, with Gcina Mhlophe at the end of August.
Thank you to Imperial Managed Logistics for their sponsorship towards 122 orphaned and vulnerable children. They were treated to the ‘best day ever’ as one little boy said. Our HOPE Carnival included music by celebrity DJ and entertainer, Lloyd Paul; jumping castles; train rides; popcorn; candy floss and all things carnival. The children we hosted had a fun day filled with love and interaction with our volunteer team and were each sent home with a brand new school bag filled with toiletries, new school uniforms, a big box of
After the incredible success and joy of our ‘Soulfood’ soup kitchen in August last year, which saw us feed over 5000 people, today we host another “soup kitchen”. Serving nearly 250 Gogos and Mkulus - as well as some kiddies - a hot, freshly cooked sit down meal thanks to Eat Greek Caterers, with LIVE entertainment by local artist Rene Tshiakanyi. A massive thank you to Merlog Foods for donating all the chicken and vegetables and Eat Greek Caterers for cooking up nearly 600 litres of nutritional stew, as
It is said that blessing and caring for the elderly shows the character of the people in our community. We are excited to be spending a further #67minutes this #mandeladay2017 with a wonderful team of volunteers from Imperial Managed Logistics and the elderly hearts at Thembela Home, blessing them with some much-needed essentials and some 3 o'clock tea time treats but especially, the time and company of our volunteers to remind them they are loved and remembered.
In celebration of Mandela day today, Watercrest Mall together with the Robin Hood Foundation treated 20 Gogo's to a day of gifts and groceries at the mall - starting with a wholesome and hearty breakfast at Mugg & Bean Westville Mall and ending with an incredible indulgent lunch at Panarottis Watercrest Mall - each Gogo had a volunteer shopper to assist them with their purchases and gifts. The Gogo's were overwhelmed and delighted with all their gifts. It truly was a momentous occasion for the Gogo's and so rewarding
#RHFBuyABrick2017 As our 2017 focus is on Early Childhood Development as this is the most important area to get the foundations right for small children to be able to learn and grow to their full potential. We believe that education is the main key to eradicating poverty. The first five years of a child's life are fundamentally important. They are the foundation that shapes children's future health, happiness, growth, development and learning achievement at school, in the family and community, and in life in general From March to May
From February to May we visited over 25 rural creches and so many of them really crept into our hearts - the lack of educational materials and for some the lack of infrastructure for the children that attend, hence our #RHFBuyABrick build campaign we are and have been running to build and revamp Siyanda Creche in Ntshongweni. Thanks to beautiful community support so far, the building is underway at Siyanda Creche and we were also able to offer assistance to another little place we visited that crept into our
What a fast, fun and energetic way to spend the morning - with 20 enthusiastic and quite awesome volunteers from the ARB Electrical Wholesalers team - giving back and packing for our BIG Mandela Day Gogo bag distribution! 20 volunteers split into 2 teams racing each other and packed 331 Gogo bags with an actual packing time of a CRAZY 39 minutes! What a feat! That is about 8 Gogo bags per minute and nearly 4 tons of stock! Thank you, ARB Electrical Wholesalers for your generous and continued
Probably the most fun day of the school holidays for 10 orphaned and vulnerable children - as highlighted to us by our community liaisons at Lungisani Indlela - from the Amaoti community today as they were thoroughly blessed with a 'Christmas in July' type feel to the day! In January 2017 KZN Slots sponsored these 10 Grade 1 children for their ENTIRE 2017 year of schooling - uniforms, stationery, toiletries, food hampers and so much more! Whilst we've been sending their monthly food hampers through the incredible team at
Today we partnered with the incredible team of community hearts at KZN Valley Dogs to feed hundreds of rural dogs, they do this selflessly single Sunday in the KwaNgcolosi community! And at the same time they teach the youngsters how to care for and respect their animals <3 Armed with hundreds of kilos of dog food, toys and treats for the children and food for the cats and the chickens, we set off into probably the most beautiful rural community but also one of the poorest. Absolutely heartwarming to
Intongela Primary was highlighted to us some years back by Community hearts Jane and Mandy, ex St Mary's teachers, who donate their time to help to educate the children. Nearly half of the 300 primary school scholars are OVC children, being looked after by a carer, Gogo or an older sibling. We visited these special little hearts today with a huge and beautiful team from MCS Debt Recovery who brought with them blessings for the children and the staff. So much excitement as the team handed out the party
We are so grateful to the HUGE team of volunteers that joined us at 7am this morning to help pack Gogo bags and sort toys and books for our upcoming projects! What a fun morning filled with laughter and giving back, and super successful as we are all geared up for next week! Thank you all!
Joined by a beautiful team of volunteers, we visited The Ark this morning in Peacevale to spread some love and share a message of hope to nearly 100 residents there. A gentle and humbling morning, and a reminder to us all of this beautiful quote by Plato - 'Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.'
It is said, "blessed is the hand that gives" and no words ring truer after our visit to Moths Umbilo on Friday, 9th June. Joined by the incredible team at Chilli Source Design and Shona from RMS Staffing Solutions - who put so much love into the packing of the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts for these elderly folk - each one with a handwritten note, we laughed, danced, sang, - thanks to Rene Tshiakanyi joining us to provide the music and entertainment - served teas and coffee

What an incredibly humbling visit to Inchanga this morning where nearly 250 Gogos and Mkhulu's were gathered in AFM church hall, awaiting our team of volunteers. We arrived to be greeted by their songs of thanksgiving, praise and worship in the church and what immediately hit our team was: how far they'd had to walk to get here, how early they had to leave their homes to be here now - some in wheelchairs, lots with walking sticks the strain of their age and hardships they've faced over the
Sunday, 28.5.17, was World Hunger Day and to help raise awareness and support the global movement, we partnered with Futurelife Foundation who fed nearly 20 000 children today and visited Sibonginhlanhla Primary - as highlighted to us by community heart Debbie Becker. With nearly 1 000 learners and almost HALF of these learners surviving on ONLY one meal a day, we couldn't wait to visit and bless them with FutureLife's dual pouch sachet - providing them with a healthy breakfast - as well as give them some much needed
What a super way to spend a Saturday morning - with some of our incredible team members and an amazing crew of volunteers at storage this morning packing over 250 Gogo bags for our project to Inchanga next week. As its our birthday month, Cindy brought some champers, we had lucky draws, lots of laughter, great music and plenty of fun! A huge thanks to all that helped out today #MakingADifference and #SpreadingLove.
Today, we partnered with some of the amazing team members from Nation Changers at CityHill Hillcrest and visited two of the creches they serve with our Love to Read campaign. What an incredibly humbling morning! These creches are so bare yet the children are so happy and loved despite the makeshift structures and lack of educational material. How beautiful to see their faces light up when our volunteers had finished packing the bookcases with all the books and toys and puzzles donated and not to mention the HUGE smiles
What a hilarious show with Mamba Republic, we have not laughed so hard in so long. We are so grateful to The Caxton Group for partnering with us again this year for an exceptional annual event! Each guest was given a goody bag filled to the brim and a lovely Compass Cares Wildlife calendar. Stunning Mystery prizes and raffle tickets and even a silent auction was in hand. All funds raised from this event will go towards our upcoming project, the"Buy-a-Brick" campaign, which will be launching very soon -
