HOPE project for 50 OVC children 17 December 2016

Each school term holiday we host a HOPE breakfast for orphaned and vulnerable children from our surrounding disadvantaged communities, cases are sent to us by request from the Christian Social Services who work closely in the townships with these vulnerable groups.

The aim of this project we’ve been running for the past 5 years is to inspire HOPE in the lives of the young children, aged 3 to 17, who have suffered devastating loss in their young lives, most of them having lost parents and now being cared for by an older sibling, aunt, neighbour or their aging Gogo’s, take them out of their dire circumstances for a while, let them play, feel the love from our volunteers and just be children.

For these children, almost every day is a struggle so imagine their joy in receiving a brand new school uniform and stationery to start off their new term at school. At each project we’ve hosted in the past, we’ve seen ourselves what these uniforms mean to the children as once they receive them, all play halts, they do not want to put them down. For them, a reason to go to school, proudly dressed in their new attire.

On the 17th December, thanks to the cast from Vogue Entertainment for donating the proceeds from their shows and incredible sponsors from Beach & Bush, PWC and Buckman Laboratories, we treated FIFTY OVC children as highlighted by the Christian Social Services, to the Matinee show of The Wonder Years – a fantastic lunch, thanks to Debonairs and then sending them home arms LADEN with TWO brand new school uniforms, toiletries, stationery, towels, blanket, HUGE Gogo bag filled with food and so much more AND each child is getting their own special Christmas present thanks to the cast of The Wonder years and the team at Emerge Mobile! What a blessing in the lives of these children who all suffer such hardships on a daily basis.
